The Mother & Baby Award Winners 2010
The winners were announced at a gala ceremony on Thursday 18th November at the Hilton Park Lane. Hosted by Jason Manford and Deputy Editor, Kathryn Blundell.
Again this year we asked over 1000 mums to put every entry in the reader-tested categories through their paces.
As Kathryn said,
“Over 3000 products were carefully parcelled and then sent nationwide to be sicked on, bashed, chucked and chewed. It really means that shortlisted products impressed the women that matter –mums. Britain’s Bravest Mum – Lynsey Fuorvito
(A special award presented by Mother & Baby and the Award’s sponsor, Tesco).
Lynsey Fuorvito was nominated by her friend Esme Inegbu, who was inspired by Lynsey’s positive spirit and her efforts in helping her two year old son, Luca, have the best life possible.
At four months, Luca was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy Type 1 – a degenerative disease that affects the nerves in Luca’s spine meaning he needs help to breathe and will never sit unaided or walk.
The disease is terminal.
Lynsey has given up work to devote herself to her beautiful, beautiful son and, as Esme says, all this love must be doing him good as Luca is the oldest surviving child with this disorder. Most babies succumbing before their first birthday.

Here, Lynsey shares the highs and lows of her life with Luca, inspiring other mums who find themselves in this heartbreaking situation and showing us all what bravery and being a great mum is all about.
The Mother & Baby Lifetime Achievement Award – Ann Wood
This special accolade honours an individual whose years of work have made an outstanding difference to the lives of parents and babies.
This year’s winner is a mum and now a grandmother, who started her career in teaching and children’s book publishing before trying her hand at TV. Clearly, this is where she belonged and in 1984, she set up her own production company, developing much loved TV shows including Brum, Rosie and Jim, the Teletubbies and recently the BAFTA award-winning In The Night Garden.
As well as entertaining all our babies – and plenty of adults, too – this year’s award winner set up a charitable foundation – the Ragdoll Foundation – to promote creativity in children in deprived circumstances, for instance supporting mum prisoners and their babies. We think Anne Wood is absolutely fantastic.

I was really looking forward to the result of The Mother & Baby Award Winners 2010 and I am delighted that in the Best Newborn Sleep Aid – 0-3 months category the 37 DEGREES – swaddling temperature blanket got a silver one!
That list is going to be very helpful both for my christmas and everyday shopping and I will definitely share it with all the mothers around me!
I really hope to be part of it next year.

Myself, pocket edition and junior were all thilled to be able to help with the testing this year and would love to help again next year. A massive well done to all the winners and runners up. Fantastic results and so glad to see the Tripp Trapp got Silver in the High Chair category – still using mine and got one for both my little ones. I tested the 12m+ toy and am glad to see the megablocks got gold – all my reviewers thought this was fantastic – so much so, Santa has bought a lot more of it for Christmas!
I had the pleasure of testing lightweight buggies this year and after hearing even more rave reviews of Baby jogger city mini I finally persuaded my partner to allow me to purchase another buggy! This will be my “forever” buggy.
I also recently purchased a Recaro Young Sport (Well actually I brought the unbranded version STM Starlight)
I wish had brought this seat from the outset. It grows with your child and is a good alternative if you dont decide to use extended rearfacing seats.

Some very worthy winners there with some of my favourite baby purchases making the awards, the tripp trapp and the kiddy pro carseat as well as one of my favourite products I was lucky (or should that be “we” as it was my son being cushioned by it) to test – the theraline pillow which helped so much with breastfeeding and is now supporting my friend through her pregnancy.
Can’t wait for next year, fingers crossed we get to play again!
I am not one of your testers (unfortunately…what a fabulous job!!), but I’m currently reviewing the Graco Symbio. It well deserved its Gold Award…what a great travel system. The reversible handle is a stroke of genius and it is so easy to steer. The Mother and Baby awards are such an important thing…highlighting these great products for us parents. I am so pleased to have taken part in the testing for the first time. The Theraline nursing and breastfeeding pillow is fab. Other products that I use at home inc the Avent Digital Steam Steriliser and Lansinoh for breast feeding both got awards and they are fantastic.

I would like to advise you the Yoomi bottle was invented and patented by myself 2 yrs prior to yoomi. My patent also prevents the warmed milk from returning to the bottle thus saving priceless expressed breast milk. Yoomi have attempted to get round the patent by allowing the warmed milk to mix back in the bottle wasting the breast milk. See the original product at dreaminnovations.org and patent on the european website 2 years before theirs.
